Jerry Garcia was an American musician best known as one of the original founders of The Grateful Dead. Though he vehemently disavowed the role, Garcia was viewed by many as the leader or "spokesman" of the group. Garcia also co-founded the New Riders of the Purple Sage with John Dawson and David Nelson.

He was well known by many for his distinctive guitar playing and was ranked by Rolling Stone at number 13 in their list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.
