Heath Andrew Ledger was an Australian television and film actor whose rise to fame included roles in such acclaimed movies as /Brokeback Mountain/, /Monster's Ball/ and /The Dark Knight/, for which he was awarded (among other honors) a posthumous Academy Award as Best Supporting Actor for his role as the Joker. Ledger also produced and directed music videos, and aspired to be a film director.

His other awards include the New York Film Critics Circle Award, the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role (both for /Brokeback Mountain/), and a share in the Independent Spirit Robert Altman Award for the ensemble cast of /I'm Not There/.

Ledger died from an accidental combination of prescription drugs, at the age of only 28. His final role was in Terry Gilliam's film /The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus/.
